Wow, all of these summer program applications are due NOW. What I really should do is just take a day off and do all of them. But I have so much work for all of my other classes, and opera rehearsals, and work, and I have so much music to learn right now...
In a few more months, I'll have a Master's degree. But if I don't work doubly hard right now, I will have no where to go from there. This is such a catch 22.
In other contemplative measures, I leave you with this totally ridiculous picture of me and Bonnie in our dressing room before the Left Bank Concert Society performance.  Enjoy.

I haven't even really decided yet. I have a big list of possibilities. But I have a general goal of doing a program that will pay me rather than me paying them, or at least one that will be free for me.

Oh yay summer programs. I'm thinking about applying to Operafestival di Roma. I know you did it, and eventhough this is uber broad, what did you think? They're doing "Don Giovanni" and "Suor" again. There is really no role in Don for mezzos (eventhough my voice teacher is convinced I could pull of Zerlina...right), but Suor has some. And I heart Italy. Let me know. Good luck with your apps!

I had a great time at Operafest and I learned a lot. They will work you hard and you will get a lot out of it, plus you get to spend a month in Rome, which is awesome, of course. There are several mezzo roles in Suor, including the Principessa, which is a fun one. And for Don Giovanni, if you don't end up going for Zerlina, I'm sure they will find something for you. There's a wide range of experience among the people who do the program. Some are professionals, others are in college or grad school. There were even a very small handful of high school students this past summer. So there are people from all different backgrounds. Some conservatory educated, others not, a real mixed bag. I made some great friends there. I learned a lot about developing my character and about staging. Overall, I give it two thumbs up. I'd love to do it again, but my goal for this summer is to do a program where I will either be making money or that will pay for me to attend, rather than one where I have to spend money, so I probably won't be auditioning this year. But we'll see. Who knows!
